Previous Promise

"The God of Jacob... keepeth truth forever" (Psalm 146:5,6). "The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the Gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.... For as many as are of the works of the Law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all the things which are written in Book of the Law to do them.... Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us.... And this I say, that the covenant that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the Law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect" (Galatians 3:8-17).

The Law of God concludes us all
Without exception cursed.
And yet with joy we now recall
The blessing promised first!

Hallelujah! Christ became
Our curse upon the cross,
Redeeming us from sinful shame
And from eternal loss!

The Law is thus uncompromised,
Nor can it disannul,
The promise made through Jesus Christ,
Who paid our debt in full!

The promise made to Abraham
In which his faith would rest
Was through his Seed, God's perfect Lamb,
The nations would be blessed.

With Abraham we rest as well
In Christ through His salvation,
Who saved us from eternal hell,
Removing condemnation!
