"I have more understanding than all my teachers.... I understand more than the ancients.... for Thou hast taught me" (Psalm 119:99-102). "And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life" (1 John 5:20).
Nothing we know is due to ourselves,
But rather to God Who gives knowledge.
This knowledge won't come from the books on our shelves
Nor teachers employed at a college.
The knowledge of God from His Word He imparts
Is given to those who will pray,
To those who will seek Him with all of their hearts,
And yield themselves to obey.
More understanding that all of our teachers,
More than the ancients we've heard,
Is given that we may be practicing preachers
Who live by the truth of God's Word.
