Utter with Understanding

"Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD?... Our fathers understood not… they remembered not…  they waited not for His counsel (Psalm 106:2,7,13).  "I will wait upon the LORD… and I will look for Him… If they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them… and they shall be driven to darkness" (Isaiah 8:17,20,22).  "Understandest thou what thou readest?... He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb…  Then Philip… began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus" (Acts 8:30-35).

How great are the Lord's mighty acts
Which many have not understood,
But there are historical facts
Which they could explore if they would.

The reason they can't understand
Is found in their heart's motivation:
They do not regard the Lord's hand
Or think that they need His salvation.

Since they are refusing the light
Of truth which our Savior has given,
They don't understand what is right,
And so into darkness are driven.

O Lord, by Your Spirit's commanding,
Like Philip we run to explain
And utter with clear understanding
That You are the Lamb that was slain!
