Surely Shined

"Oh that men would praise the LORD… He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder" (Psalm 107:8-14).  "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined… For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given… The Mighty God" (Isaiah 9:2,6).  "Suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven; and… a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?... And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?" (Acts 9:3-6).

The Lord is worthy of the praise
Which we may give with every breath.
The light and life that He displays
Has triumphed over sin and death.

The people who in darkness walked
Rejoiced to see the Savior's light.
By Christ our prison is unlocked;
Our bands are broken by His might.

For us Christ bore the awful scorn,
And none could turn Him from that path,
For unto us a Child is born
Who came to rescue us from wrath.

Lord Jesus, surely You have shined
On us, as when You summoned Saul,
So help us likewise be inclined
To answer faithfully Your call.
