Uttered to be Understood

"Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?" (Proverbs 22:20,21).  "Forasmuch as this people... have removed their heart far from Me... the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid" (Isaiah 29:13,14).  "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?... Utter... words easy to be understood" (1 Corinthians 14:8,9).

The counsels of the Lord are good
And written with such certainty
With proof that makes them understood
By words fulfilled in prophecy.

Behold the things so excellent
Which prophets said that God would do,
Fulfilled when Jesus Christ was sent,
Who proved that what they said was true.

His Word foretold Christ's place of birth,
His miracles, His great affliction,
The hatred by His foes on earth,
Betrayal, and His crucifixion.

Our Savior promised He would rise
In three days, as He clearly said,
Though this took many by surprise
When He was risen from the dead.

The time has come to clearly speak
To those who want an explanation
With understanding when they seek
The certainty of Christ's salvation.

O Lord, we see the tragic state
Of those who in rebellion slid,
Who for Your love requited hate,
And thus Your truth was from them hid.

We utter words with understanding,
O Lord, that souls may heed Your voice.
The turning that You are commanding
Still calls to hearts to make their choice.
