Dying Deceived

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God" (Psalm 53:1).  "When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth" (Proverbs 11:7).  "Let no man deceive himself" (1 Corinthians 3:18).

How foolishly many reject
The grace of our Lord they resist,
Deceiving themselves to expect
That God simply doesn't exist.

This notion is not only vain,
It's wicked rebellion as well.
The truth about God is so plain,
Deception arises from hell.

The wicked man's vain expectation
Shall change just as soon as he dies.
He'll know he rejected salvation
Because he refused to be wise.

How sadly are souls self-deceived
By lies which they vainly have cherished!
Their anguish shall not be relieved
When their expectation has perished!

Lord, help us to bring Your persuasion
To those who are shunning Your favor,
So they may yet seize the occasion
To turn and to trust You as Savior.

How fearfully people are dying,
Deceived on the slippery slope!
Lord, send us to them testifying
To show that in You there is hope!
