Punishment or Peace

"Power belongeth unto God.  Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy" (Psalm 62:11,12).  "Fury is not in Me: who would set the briers and thorns against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.  Or let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me; and he shall make peace with Me" (Isaiah 27:4,5).  "Yet show I unto you a more excellent way" (1 Corinthians 12:31).

To God belongs such awesome power!
How foolishly do souls contend
And yet resist Him to this hour,
Rejecting mercy He would send.

To God belongs such wondrous love!
How rightly does the sinner run
To Christ who came down from above
To rescue souls that were undone!

Now sinners racing in a hurry
To their eternal condemnation,
May meet the Lord, not in His fury,
But in the peace of His salvation!

How excellent is this Your way,
O Lord, which bids our fears to cease!
Though we like sheep have gone astray,
We find in You our perfect peace!

You bore for us the punishment
To give us, Lord, another choice:
To grant us peace, Lord, You were sent,
And in Your mercy, we rejoice!

We worship You, O Christ our Savior,
As we consider more and more
The awful price for peace and favor:
The punishment for us Your bore.
