Wiser Words

“Thou through Thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me…. Therefore I hate every false way” (Psalm 119:98,104). “Cease, My son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. An ungodly witness scorneth judgment…. Judgments are prepared for scorners” (Proverbs 19:27-29).

There is no way to compromise,
Nor are there terms of peace,
With those exchanging truth for lies,
Whose scorning will not cease.

Well, can’t we all just get along?
The simple answer: No.
For right will not agree with wrong,
And falsehood is our foe.

If God had not conveyed His Word
With ample evidence,
Contending now would be absurd
Without a clear defense.

But that is surely not the case!
There is authority
In every Word of God we trace
Confirmed by prophecy.

The scorner speaks dismissively
Of things that are sublime.
He thinks not of eternity;
Why would he waste his time?

Should not we count their blindness strange,
With stakes so very high,
When they refuse a fair exchange
Of truth before they die?

The scorner soon must give account
For proofs that were profuse
In such a plentiful amount,
There will be no excuse.

Be ready always, then, to speak
With wiser words perceived,
For scorners also sometimes seek
To know WHY we’ve believed.

The enemies of truth may hate
These wiser words extended;
But when their words evaporate,
Their scorning shall be ended.

For wiser words, we thank You, Lord,
Confirming Your salvation!
Though evidence may be ignored,
We rest on its foundation!
