Truest of Treasures

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee…. I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, as much as in all riches” (Psalm 119:11,14). “Receive My instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (Proverbs 8:10,11).

When God’s Word is hid in our heart,
The truest of treasures are stored.
For this is where He will impart
The wisdom that comes from the Lord.

The truest of treasures abound
In those who receive God’s instruction,
Rejoicing in what they have found,
Escaping this world’s seduction.

For what shall it profit a man
If he should receive all the world,
When he has neglected God’s plan
And then into hell must be hurled?

In You, Lord, we find all the treasures
Exceeding what should be compared
With all of the temporal pleasures
By which precious souls are ensnared.

O Lord, we are moved to rejoice
By all we have found in Your Word,
For therein we’re hearing Your voice;
There’s no sweeter sound we have heard!
