Divine Dominion

"When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, Judah was His sanctuary, and Israel His dominion. The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.... Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the LORD" (Psalm 114:1-7). "He is a Buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of His saints" (Proverbs 2:7,8).

What caused the sea to flee away
When Israel from Egypt went?
What made the Jordan's waters stay
As walls erected with cement?

The earth would shake at what it saw,
Though human eyes could be so blind!
The heavens also stand in awe,
Though this escapes the human mind!

We dare not look to man's opinion,
But to the Lord, and Him alone,
That God in us may have dominion,
Preeminent upon His throne!

O Lord, throughout this desert place,
We know the demons tremble still
At Your dominion and Your grace,
Submissive to Your sovereign will.

Lord, keep us ever mindful too
Of Your dominion in our life,
That we may be preserved by You
Triumphant thus in every strife.
