Right Rule

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye. Be not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee" (Psalm 32:8,9). "As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.... He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls" (Proverbs 25:12,28).

How we need our Lord's instruction
And the guidance of His eye,
That will guard us from seduction
Crafted by the devil's lie!

How we need our Savior's rule
That keeps us walking in His path,
Led, not as the horse or mule,
But gratefully preserved from wrath!

Lord, thank you for Your voice that calls,
Reproving us with truth and pity,
Lest we should be as broken walls
And as an unprotected city.
