Praises of Princes

"Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the Lord's name is to be praised.... His glory is above the heavens.... He humbleth Himself.... He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill, that He may set him with princes" (Psalm 113:2-8).

The reasons for praising our Lord's name abound;
His glory is higher than we comprehend,
And yet He has humbled Himself to be found
The Savior of sinners, whom He would befriend.

He raises the poor in their hopeless estate
From out of the dust and their dunghill abhorred,
To set them with princes who likewise relate
That they were each lifted by Jesus their Lord.

So why should we waste any time in our days
With anything other than lifting His name?
Upon the sun's rising may we give Him praise;
Until the sun's setting may we do the same.
