Studies in Stubbornness

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee" (Psalm 32:8,9).

There is a twofold stubbornness
That God would have us know
Will hinder His delight to bless
When we're too fast or slow.

First God shows to us the horse
Controlled by bit and reigns
That races forward on its course,
And slowing down disdains.

Next we see the classic mule
Content to take it slow.
He often stops, and as a rule,
It's hard to make him go.

Thus we have these stubborn two,
The horse and mule, portrayed.
In these are similes so true
When we have not obeyed.
