Prayerful Proserity (New Year's Day)

"O Lord... prosper, I pray Thee, Thy servant this day, and grant him mercy" (Nehemiah 1:11).  "Let Thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even Thy salvation, according to Thy word" (Psalm 119:41).  "The prosperity of fools shall destroy them" (Proverbs 1:32).  "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:36,37).

A new year dawns:  what shall it hold?
God offers us prosperity
In blessings that are yet untold
In truth He gives that makes us free.

The Lord will prosper all with grace
Who meditate upon His Word
And with their whole heart, seek His face,
As they obey His counsel heard.

The sad prosperity of fools
Shall end at last in their destruction
Because their own heart proudly rules
And leads them on in blind seduction.

So let us go forth carefully
As days, like pages, tell our story,
And we are prospered prayerfully
To give to God alone the glory.

Lord, lead us onward with this goal
To profit in the things that last,
As in the winning of each soul
Delivered from their sinful past.

O Lord, we thank you for the treasure
Of true prosperity You give
As prayerfully we seek Your pleasure,
Upheld by grace You daily live.
