Heralds of our Heritage

"Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage forever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart" (Psalm 119:111).  "Wisdom... crieth upon the highest places of the city, Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither... Come, eat of My bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled" (Proverbs 9:1-5).  "So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.  And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the Word with signs following. Amen" (Mark 16:19,20).

The testimonies of the Lord
Which we inherit have been sealed.
These are the treasures which are stored
In every promise God revealed!

These treasures in the Word of God
Are ours to hold and to proclaim
To souls at home and those abroad
As we declare why Jesus came.

We bring to all the invitation
To come to Christ and with Him dine.
We herald thus His great salvation
With tokens of the bread and wine.

As when our risen Lord had spoken
To His disciples who would preach,
That heritage is yet unbroken
For every soul whom Christ will reach.

The Lord Himself confirmed His Word
With miracles which were designed
To validate the Gospel heard
From heralds that He had assigned.

Those signs, therefore, are not now needed,
Since God's New Testament is finished.
We add no words to those completed,
And not one word shall be diminished.

Lord, what a heritage You gave
To everyone who trusts in You!
He hold Gospel that will save
With evidence that it is true!

As heralds of this evidence
And of Gospel of Your grace,
We show, Lord, our inheritance
To souls who yet may seek Your face.
