More Special than Many Sparrows

"Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows" (Luke 12:6,7).

No sparrow by God is unheeded,
Though five are so lightly esteemed.
But God paid the ransom we needed
So we could be thereby redeemed!

Our value to Christ is displayed
By all He endured on the cross.
How great was the price that He paid
To save us from infinite loss!

The Lord who has numbered our hairs
(And certainly also each cell)
Thus demonstrates how much He cares:
He died to redeem us from hell.

Let this be the thought that controls
The peace that should rule in our hearts,
For Christ came to rescue our souls
And give us the peace He imparts.

Lord, thank You for comfort so sweet,
Which You illustrate in a bird,
To show us Your care so complete,
That we may be thereby assured.

O Lord, when from You we have wandered
At times, like a bird from her nest,
Forgive us for time we have squandered,
And draw us back into Your rest.

How tender, Lord Jesus our Savior,
Are mercies by which You restore
Our souls, still more special in favor
Than sparrows You also care for.
