Grasping the Greater

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.  For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations" (Psalm 100:4,5).  "Wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it... For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD" (Proverbs 8:11,35).  "But I say unto you, That in this place is One greater than the temple" (Matthew 12:6).

O come and join the joyful ranks
Of all who come into God's courts
To praise His name and give Him thanks
As we have heard His glad reports.

We grasp the blessing that is greater
Than shadows which the temple made:
Behold the Lamb, our great Creator,
Has, by His death, redemption paid!

We see each temple sacrifice
Foreshadowed what that prophets saw.
Yet shadows never could suffice
To satisfy God's holy Law.

There's nothing that we can desire
That's greater than our precious Savior.
There is no measure that is higher
Than love that bought eternal favor!

A Greater than the temple came
When Jesus came in lowly birth
To take away our sin and shame;
O may we grasp His greater worth!

Lord, help us now to grasp the love
Which You expressed upon the cross
That made You leave Your throne above
To rescue us from endless loss!

There is a Greater in this place
Than temple shadows which were cast!
We're grasping, Lord, Your matchless grace
In types You gave us from the past.
