Commencement with Commitment

"Hezekiah... wrought that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God... And in every work that he began... he did it with all his heart, and prospered" (1 Chronicles 31:20,21).  "O God, my heart is fixed... I myself will awake early" (Psalm 108:1,2).  "Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established" (Proverbs 16:3).  "The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28).

It's good for us to keep in mind
The people who have pleased the Lord,
For as we study them we find
The diligence God will reward.

In Hezekiah we can see
In every work that he would start,
The Lord gave him prosperity
In what he did with all his heart.

He did that which was good and right
And truthful in the sight of God.
In these things God will take delight
And not the things that men applaud.

In all the things that we begin
The Lord has called us to be wise.
Do not be turned aside by sin,
But live before the Savior's eyes.

Now let us fix our hearts at last
With true commitment to our Savior.
This life we live will soon be past;
Let's honor Christ with our behavior.

Our Savior told us why He came:
To serve, to seek, and save the lost.
He died to take away our shame,
And pay our ransom's awful cost.

We've seen, Lord, Your determination
In Your commitment never swerving
To pay the price for our salvation
And bear the wrath we were deserving.

In our commitments, Lord, to You,
We'd finish well what we commence
In all that's good, and right, and true,
To praise You with our diligence.

Committed, Lord, to run this race
From our commencement to the end,
We show the lost Your saving grace
And on Your faithfulness depend.
