Soul-Winning Sojourners

“Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee” (Genesis 26:3).  “Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy name” (Psalm 79:9).  “He that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).  “Unto me… is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ… Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen” (Ephesians 3:8-21).

We only have a little time
To sojourn in this wilderness
And focus on the things sublime
Which God has said that He would bless.

We claim the help of God our Savior
So we may glorify His name
In every word and in behavior
To show the reason that He came.

The things we see are temporal
Which groan beneath the curse of sin.
Eternity is in each soul
Which we are called to wisely win.

We hold this grace that heaven gave
To preach of riches found in Christ
To precious souls that He would save,
For whom He has been sacrificed.

No wonder, then, God calls them wise
Who win the souls who will repent,
Though only He can open eyes
Of souls to whom we have been sent.

We have abundant evidence
For those who listen without guile.
Prophetic truth gives confidence
To speak to Jew or to Gentile.

To You, O Lord, be all the glory
Through time and through eternal ages!
We tell with joy redemption’s story
Declared upon the Scripture’s pages!

Lord, help us wisely use each day
In which we sojourn here on earth
As souls are won and led to pray,
Receiving You to find new birth.
