Only One

“Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but ONE blessing, my father?... And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept” (Genesis 27:38).  “Let Thy hand be upon the Man of Thy right hand, upon the Son of Man whom Thou madest strong for Thyself… we will call upon Thy name… and we shall be saved” (Psalm 80:17-19).  “In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death” (Proverbs 12:28).  “Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6).  There is ONE body, and ONE Spirit, even as ye are called in ONE hope of your calling; ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism, ONE God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:4-6).

When Esau lifted up his voice,
He wept for blessings in the earth,
For long before he made his choice
To value things of fleeting worth.

The question Esau raised with tears,
In view of Christ, consider well:
ONE blessing stands as judgment nears
That saves us from eternal hell.

There is ONE Man whom God made strong
To save us from eternal loss.
All other avenues are wrong
Which see no value in His cross.

The only Way is Jesus Christ;
There is no other saving path.
He is the Lamb God sacrificed;
He is the Lord who saves from wrath.

He is God’s Way of righteousness;
There surely is no other one.
In Christ alone our God will bless
Because His work that saves is done.

There is ONE body and ONE Spirit.
There is ONE hope; we hear its call.
There is ONE Lord by whom we hear it.
There is ONE faith that saves us all.

There is ONE portrait of our life
As baptized in our Savior’s grave,
Yet risen with Him from the strife
To claim that Christ alone can save.

There is ONE God of truth and love
And Father calling us His own,
Who sent our Savior from above,
In whom His glory thus was shown.

O Lord, we hear in Esau’s cry
A longing for this passing world,
Where things decay, where hopes must die,
And death is like a vortex swirled.

We thank You, Lord, that You have changed
Our heritage forevermore.
How gladly we have thus exchanged
These things for Christ whom we adore!

Lord, send us forth to now proclaim
That You alone are mankind’s Savior.
There’s ONLY ONE; no other name
But Yours extends salvation’s favor.
