Work and Word

“Thou, LORD, hast made me glad through Thy work: I will triumph in the works of Thy hands.  O LORD, how great are Thy works! and Thy thoughts are very deep” (Psalm 92:4,5).  “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

The work of God may be explored
In all the things that He has made,
And in the advent of our Lord,
We see His grace and truth displayed.

The attributes of God are seen
In all the works of His creation.
We see Him also intervene
By work and word through His salvation.

How rightly, then, we should be glad
In view of what we’ve seen and heard!
Christ changed the hopeless life we had
And saved us by His work and word.

The thoughts of God are very deep;
He weighed the great and awful price
To ransom all His wayward sheep,
And He became our Sacrifice!

Rejoice!  For Christ, as promised, came
To Bethlehem to be our Savior!
The Word made flesh endured our shame;
His work is done that grants us favor!

We now have cause to celebrate,
Not only that He came to earth,
But changed our sad and hopeless state
By giving us a second birth.

His work and word continue still
To change us daily by His grace,
As we are taught to do His will
In His appointed time and place.

Lord, thank You for the Word of God
Which teaches us to flee from sin.
It matters not what men applaud;
We need Your cleansing work within.

We thank You for this confidence;
We know Your work and word are true!
Equipped now with such evidence,
Lord, send us forth to speak for You.
