Heaven in our Household

“And the LORD said… I know him [Abraham], that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD” (Genesis 18:17-19).  “Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed Thy strength unto this generation” (Psalm 71:18).  “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart… In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5,6).  “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith... The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all” (2 Corinthians 13:5,14).

“I know him,” God Almighty said,
Regarding Abraham, His friend,
For God foresaw the days ahead
And what would happen in the end.

In Abraham God took delight,
Foreseeing he would teach his youth
To show his children what was right
And train them in the way of truth.

By Abraham’s obedience
His household also would be blest.
This is the joyful consequence
Of knowing God’s way is the best.

The Lord has clearly taught us too,
So we should teach this generation
The evidence that Christ is true
To show the way of His salvation.

As we obey our Savior’s voice
And tell how He will save from sin,
Our household still must make the choice
To trust in Christ and let Him in.

The choice is heaven or it’s hell;
It’s God’s salvation or His wrath.
We may persuade, but not compel,
A soul to choose salvation’s path.

So as it still is called today,
We now must speak with clarity:
Apart from Christ there is no way
To save a soul eternally.

O Lord, we thank You for Your Word
Which makes Your counsel very plain
So we may do what we have heard
And teach our children whom we train.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your grace.
We thank You, Father, for Your love.
Your Spirit speaks of heaven’s place
And fills our household from above.
