Joy of the Justified

“Justice and judgment are the habitation of Thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before Thy face.  Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Thy countenance.  In Thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted” (Psalm 89:14-16).  “Seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth… Your life is hid with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:1-4).

God’s justice and judgment are now satisfied
By mercy and truth sent ahead of His face.
It was for this purpose our Lord Jesus died:
To justify sinners with truth and with grace.

How blest are the people who know the sweet sound
Of justification in Jesus our Lord!
How great is cause of their joy they have found
In treasures of mercy and truth thus explored!

They walk in the light where the Lord shines His favor:
They’re dressed in His righteousness, not in their own.
Rejoicing all day in Christ Jesus their Savior,
They draw near to worship the Lamb on His throne.

We join those now praising our Lord Jesus Christ;
We set our affections on things up above.
Astonished that He was for us sacrificed,
We ponder the depths of unsearchable love!

O Lord, as we think about things on this earth
Which cannot compare with the blessings You give,
We lift up our eyes to consider Your worth
And realize YOU are the reason to live.

The joy of the justified never departs!
O Lord, we’ve discovered Your very own joy:
As You are enthroned and adored in our hearts,
We enter the gladness that none can destroy.

Our life here on earth, Lord, is such a short story;
O help us to live with eternity’s view,
So all that we do may be done for Your glory
And more may be joyfully trusting in You!
