Beauty of Baptism

“Surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto Him.  Thou art my Hiding Place; Thou shalt preserve me from trouble” (Romans 32:6,7).  “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth… ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger” (Zephaniah 2:3).  “Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life… yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead… For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:4-23).

In Christ we’re beholding salvation
That baptism truly displays
That shows our identification
With Christ in such beautiful ways!

In Noah’s day great waters rose
To bear up the ark in the flood.
Now all who trust Christ are like those
Preserved and redeemed by His blood.

The day of God’s judgment draws near,
Yet we shall be hid from His wrath.
In Christ there is no need to fear
The shadow of death on our path.

And yet there is more to this beauty
In baptism’s portrait revealed,
For worship now beautifies duty,
As now to Christ Jesus we yield.

Our Lord was triumphant in strife:
And thus we rejoice that He lives.
We’re walking in newness of life,
With power our risen Lord gives!

The terrible wages of sin
Were paid by Christ’s death on the cross.
Each life that our Lord enters in
Forever is saved from this loss!

His life that He gives is a gift
That every believer is given.
No longer, therefore, should we drift,
But live with a new passion driven!

The waters of baptism show,
Not merely an outward tradition,
But life that the Lord will bestow
To those who will give Him permission.

O Lord, You are surely the reason
To live with a passion that’s true.
You rescued our souls in due season,
Our joy now is living for You.
