Preaching that Prevails

“I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved” (Psalm 16:8).  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).  “The Word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee” (Jonah 3:1,2).  “Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:  for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city” (Acts 18:9,10).

There is a preaching that prevails
Against the gates of hell today.
God sends it forth; it never fails
To triumph as He leads the way.

As we are following the Savior
We know we never shall be moved.
As Christ is Lord of our behavior,
Our preaching thereby shall be proved.

When preaching does not compromise
The truth that God must judge our sin,
The fear of God will make one wise,
So this is where we must begin.

We see this preaching was not hid
From Jonah who obeyed God’s Word.
“Go… preach the preaching that I bid,”
Was the commission that he heard.

Though Jonah needed God’s correction,
He still obeyed when he was sent
And preached as God gave him direction,
So Nineveh would thus repent.

“Be not afraid… Hold not thy peace,”
The Lord declared to Paul one night.
So Paul, in Corinth, did not cease
To preach the Word with all his might.

“For I am with thee,” God declared.
Have not we also heard the same?
Should not we likewise be prepared
To preach the Gospel in His name?

Lord, send us by Your great commission
With Your authority to preach
To sinners in their lost condition
Whom You are longing still to reach.

We shall prevail, Lord, we know,
With power coming from above
Which, by Your Spirit, You bestow
To preach the Gospel with Your love.
