Tower in the Tumult

“Arise, O God, plead Thine own cause… the tumult of those that rise up against Thee increaseth continually” (Psalm 74:22,23).  “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe… there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:10,24).

Our God shall surely plead His cause
Against the tumult of His foes
Who spurn His Word and break His laws
As arrogance against Him grows.

There is a way to rise above
This tumult that increases still:
The Tower of our Savior’s love
Shall shelter those who do His will.

This Tower in the tumult stands
Above this world’s blasphemy
To see the working of God’s hands
Through time and through eternity.

This Tower where we run inside
Is found by trusting Jesus’ name.
It’s in His righteousness we hide,
There is no other that we claim!

Within this Tower there’s a Friend
That holds us closer than a brother.
This is the Savior we commend
Who saves our souls; there is no other.

Yet even with reproaches hurled
And tumult rising every day,
Our God still loves this rebel world,
Though we, like sheep, have gone astray.

Lord, thank You for this invitation
To run inside Your saving Tower!
We’re trusting in Your reputation
To guard and guide us every hour.

O Lord, Your Tower gives us vision:
The harvest fields are in view.
We see the valley of decision
Where souls may choose to come to You!

Your Tower view, Lord, makes it clear:
We see the souls You greatly cherish.
Above the tumult, may they hear
The Gospel, so they may not perish!
