Perceiving our Purpose

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him… Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (Psalm 62:5,8).  “Did not thy father [Josiah]… do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?... Was not this to know Me? saith the LORD” (Jeremiah 22:15,16)  “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

There is a purpose that we find,
When we are living for God’s pleasure,
A joy of spirit, soul, and mind
Which we perceive in fullest measure.

When we are waiting on the Lord,
When He becomes our expectation,
When hearts to Him are thus outpoured,
We know the joy of His salvation.

We’ll surely find it shall be well
As we have trusted and obeyed,
And thereby we shall show and tell
The purpose that we have been made.

At last we understand our worth:
It was for love we were created!
Yes, this is why Christ came to earth
To die for us, though He was hated.

Our worth is thus unspeakable!
It’s for His pleasure we now live,
For this is why He saved our soul:
To give us this prerogative.

Lord, You are worthy of all praise!
Our highest purpose to exist
Is for Your pleasure all our days;
Let other reasons be dismissed!
