Christ our Confidence

“Unto Thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defense, and the God of my mercy” (Psalm 59:17).  “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding… The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath He established the heavens… The LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken” (Proverbs 3:5-26).  “Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood… be glory and dominion for ever and ever” (Revelation 1:5-6).

The Lord Jesus Christ is our Confidence now,
And He’ll be our Strength in the days yet ahead.
The day is approaching when each knee shall bow
When every eye sees Him alive from the dead.

We dare not put confidence in our own heart,
Or foolishly think we are wise in our eyes,
For Christ is our Wisdom, and He will impart
His counsel on which all creation relies.

We know that our Savior cannot be mistaken;
How kindly He offers to us His correction!
It is by His counsel our foot is not taken,
For those who obey Him shall have His protection.

To Christ who has loved us and washed us from sin
Be glory forever with endless dominion!
This is where wisdom and knowledge begin,
Forsaking our trust in the world’s opinion.

O Lord, we give thanks for this great confidence
That we are enjoying because You are true.
We rest in Your favor and in Your defense,
Persuading the lost to find refuge in You.
