Song and a Sword

"The LORD taketh pleasure in His people… with salvation.  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand" (Psalm 149:4,6).  "Blessed is the man that heareth Me… for whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD" (Proverbs 8:34,35).  "The flock that waited upon Me knew that it was the Word of the LORD…. They weighed for My price thirty pieces of silver" (Zechariah 11:11,12).  "Search the Scriptures; for… they are they which testify of Me" (John 5:39).

Behold the pleasure of the Lord
Who places in our mouth and hand
His praises and a two-edged sword
As we fulfill our Lord's command.

We sing the song of jubilation;
We bear the sword that is His Word.
Our song rejoices in salvation;
Our sword reports the Scriptures heard.

We sing the praise of Jesus Christ
Who was foretold with great detail:
For thirty silver pieces priced!
The Word of God can never fail!

O Lord, we thank You for the song
And for the Spirit's sword You gave
To sing Your praises all day long
And preach the Gospel that will save.
