Marvelous Mistake

"The Stone which the builders refused is become the Head Stone of the corner.  This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" (Psalm 118:22,23).  "He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the Just, even they both are abomination to the LORD" (Proverbs 17:15).  "I have written to him the great things of My Law, but they were counted as a strange thing" (Hosea 8:12).  "Did ye never read in the Scriptures, The Stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the Head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?" (Matthew 21:42). 

The Word of God is marvelous,

Foretelling Christ would be refused,

That He would give His life for us,

And for our sakes would be abused. 

The Pharisees condemned our Lord

And justified a guilty thief. 

They did the things that God abhorred

Through blindness in their unbelief. 

Their actions, which the Lord foresaw,

Were in the Scriptures clearly written,

Portraying Christ within the Law

Who would be hated, scorned, and smitten. 

How marvelous was this mistake,

O Lord, by those who should have known,

And sadly many still forsake

Your mercy as the Corner Stone!
