Sufficiency of our Savior

"All that a man hath will he give for his life" (Job 2:4).  "I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin… Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation" (Psalm 38:18,22).  "Whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.  But he that sinneth against Me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate Me love death" (Proverbs 8:35,36).  "Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows" (Isaiah 53:4).  "They crucified Him… He saved others; Himself He cannot save" (Matthew 27:35,42).

We have no ransom for our life
(Though all we have we would surrender),
Apart from Christ who fought our strife
And died to be our soul's Defender.

Though we would heartily declare
That we are sorry for our sin,
There's no sufficient refuge there
Unless our Savior enters in.

Behold the sorrows that He bore
To spare us from eternal loss,
As prophets testified before
That Christ would bear them on the cross!

O Lord, by Your sufficiency
We have obtained salvation's favor,
For all of our iniquity
Was purged when You became our Savior!
