Humanity's Hope

"I cannot find one wise man among you… and where is now my hope?" (Job 17:10,15).  "God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God… there is none that doeth good, no, not one" (Psalm 53:2,3).  "Be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.  For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off" (Proverbs 23:17-18).  "The scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And He was numbered with the transgressors." (Mark 15:28).

Now where is our hope found today?
And who has the wisdom to speak
Of truth that is hidden away
Expounded for those who will seek?

The Lord looked from heaven to earth
To see if just one understood:
Alas!  We are sinners from birth!
There's not even one who is good!

That truth may be hard to receive,
But it is essential to hear
To come to the Lord and believe
As He draws our hearts by His fear.

Humanity's hope has been found,
O Lord, in the sweet expectation
Of Scriptures fulfilled that abound,
Foretelling Your wondrous salvation!
