Wisdom of His Will

"The LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: but unto Cain and to his offering He had not respect... And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth?" (Genesis 4:4-6).  "O praise the LORD... for his merciful kindness... and the truth of the LORD" (Psalm 117:1 ,2).  "The LORD giveth wisdom... and preserveth the way of his saints" (Proverbs 2:6,8).  "I am ready... to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.  And... we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done" (Acts 21:13,14).

The sacrifice that God respected
Was that of Abel, not of Cain.
The bloodless offering was rejected
That Cain had offered then in vain.

The wisest thing that Cain could do
Was quickly to be reconciled
And do the will of God in view,
Avoiding then a heart defiled.

The Lamb who would be sacrificed,
Foreshadowed in the offering
By shedding blood, was Jesus Christ
With grace and truth that He would bring.

O Lord, the wisdom of Your will
Is seen in those who will obey.
So lead us onward to fulfill
Your perfect will in us today.
