Yielding our Years

"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom... And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us" (Psalm 90:12,17).  "My son, attend unto My wisdom... lest thou give thine honor unto others, and thy years unto the cruel" (Proverbs 5:1,9).  "O LORD, revive Thy work in the midst of the years" (Habakkuk 3:2).  "I am the Vine... without Me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).

Our minutes quickly turn to hours,
To days, to weeks, to months, and years.
We are at last like fading flowers,
Except that flowers shed no tears.

The flowers of the earth shall fade
And afterward shall turn to dust,
But we have spirits that are made
Eternally in God to trust.

We're wise to yield to the Lord;
The one who won't will be a fool.
In Christ we have our great reward;
Apart from Him, the years are cruel.

Revive us, Lord, though years decline,
To bear much fruit which may be sealed.
We are the branches, You're the Vine;
Be glorified in fruit we yield.
