Hidden or Hardened

"A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished... Hear the words of the wise... that thy trust may be in the LORD" (Proverbs 22:3,17,19).  "I will give them a heart to know Me... and I will be their God" (Jeremiah 24:7).  "Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts... Exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin" (Hebrews 3:7-13).

The prudent man foresees disgrace,
The consequences of his sin.
He seeks and finds the hiding place
In Christ alone, and runs therein.

How sweet the words are of the wise
Inviting us to trust the Lord!
How strangely does the fool despise
The grace of God he has ignored.

In Christ there is no middle ground;
There is no other saving path.
Those trusting Him are heaven bound,
But hardened hearts are bound for wrath.

Lord, thank You that You found a way
For guilty sinners to be pardoned!
The humble hide in You today;
The proud in heart are further hardened.
