Fruitful Friendship

"A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17).  "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you... Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain" (John 15:13-16).

There is a friendship never ending
Which we have found in Christ our Lord.
He died for those He was befriending;
His soul for us was then outpoured.

It was for such adversity
That Jesus Christ was born on earth:
To save our souls eternally
And call us brethren by new birth.

No greater love is seen in man
Than laying down his life for friends,
But Christ's love has a greater span:
To enemies His love extends!

We are His friends when we obey,
And yet, at times, we know we fail.
Our Lord befriends us anyway
With love that always will prevail.

Thank God for His enduring love
By which His children are corrected.
Our Savior intercedes above;
His work in us shall be perfected.

We thank You, Lord, that You ordain
The chosen path of our pursuit
To live a life that You sustain
And beautify with lasting fruit.

O Lord, this fruitful friendship found
Is ours because You loved us first!
How blest we are to know the sound
Of grace that saves us who were cursed!
