Victorious Vows

“Yea, hath God said?... And the LORD God said unto the serpent… I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:1-15).  “Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto Thee” (Psalm 56:12).  “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10).  “He that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort” (1 Corinthians 14:3).

We hear the serpent’s subtle taunting
That mocks the word that God has said,
But God shall never be found wanting,
And all who doubt Him are misled.

The Lord foresaw this all unfold;
He knew how Adam would respond.
He saw what man could not behold:
The consequence of sin beyond.

The Lord could also see our need,
And thus He vowed to be our Savior,
For He would be the virgin’s Seed
And battle to extend us favor.

How wondrously did God reveal
That He would come to our defense
And thus be wounded in His heal
To satisfy sin’s consequence!

Yes, God HAS said it, rest assured,
And all His vows shall be fulfilled!
O praise the Lord and trust His Word!
Let every foolish doubt be stilled!

We celebrate His reputation,
For Christ alone is our Strong Tower!
He paid the price for our salvation
And shelters us with grace and power!

How wondrous is His victory!
Behold the battle that He fought
As Jesus stood with enmity
Against the serpent’s deadly plot!

The vows of Christ now edify,
Exhort, and comfort all His own.
We cast aside the serpent’s lie,
And make our Savior’s triumph known!

O Lord, we thank for each vow
Fulfilled upon the cross You bore!
Astonished at this sight we bow
And praise Your name forevermore!

O Lord, we know there is no chance
That any vow You made can fail!
Your Church You build shall thus advance;
The gates of hell shall not prevail.
