Beauty of the Book

“Many, O LORD my God, are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts which are to us-ward… Sacrifice and offering Thou didst not desire; Mine ears hast Thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast Thou not required.  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the Book it is written of Me, I delight to do Thy will, O My God: yea, Thy law is within My heart” (Psalm 40:5-8).  “It is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God” (Romans 14:11).

The Lord invites us now to look
At things He promised He would do:
Behold the beauty of the Book,
And know that every word is true!

Those animals once sacrificed
Were not, at last, what God desired,
Which only shadowed Jesus Christ,
Our perfect Substitute required.

Consider David’s meditation
As Christ responds with prophecy
To show the beauty of salvation
Which saves our souls eternally!

As David thought on many things,
He heard the voice of Christ reply;
Behold the Offering that He brings,
For Christ Himself would come to die!

How precious is this Book we hold
That shows the counsel of God’s will!
How great His thoughts are, thus foretold,
Which Christ our Savior would fulfill!

Yet prophecies outstanding now
Shall be fulfilled in future things
When every knee to Christ shall bow
As Lord of lords and King of kings.

And every tongue shall then confess
That Christ is Lord of every nation
When we, with multitudes, shall bless
Our Savior for so great salvation!

O Lord, we thank You for Your Word;
How wonderful is every verse
Wherein Your voice to us is heard
Declaring that You bore our curse!

Your Book, O Lord, is beautiful;
Its revelations are sublime!
Its Gospel yet will save each soul
Who will respond to You in time.
