Thinking Here on Thanking Him

“Offer unto God thanksgiving… and call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me” (Psalm 50:14,15).  “The thoughts of the righteous are right” (Proverbs 12:5).  “I have loved you, saith the LORD” (Malachi 1:2).  “If any man love God, the same is known of Him” (1 Corinthians 8:3).

It’s surely right to thank the Lord
For all His love that He has shown
By all His blessings He has poured
Through Jesus Christ upon His own.

We thank Him that He loved us first
When we were lost in sin and shame.
His Law declared that we were cursed
And thus condemned before He came.

He knew the trouble we were in;
He knew it better than we did!
He took the burden of our sin,
Our open sins, and those we hid.

Yet even so, we weren’t inclined
To seek Him as our Hiding Place.
He knew that we were weak and blind
And could not see our need of grace.

He sent His Spirit to reprove
Of sin, of righteousness, and wrath,
So we might be convinced to move
With haste into salvation’s path.

We called upon Him on that day,
And by His mercy we were saved.
His grace prepared our hearts to pray
And seek the Refuge that we craved.

And thus we joined the grateful ranks
Of sinners lifted from perdition!
How can we cease to give Him thanks
Who loved us in our lost condition?

O Lord, we marvel at Your love
And glorify You with our praise.
We set our hearts on things above
And thank You for Your loving ways!

We thank You, Lord, for Your salvation,
More costly than our hearts can know.
Receive our grateful adoration
For endless blessings You bestow!
