Making of a Messenger

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me… uphold me with Thy free Spirit.  Then will I teach transgressors Thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto Thee” (Psalm 51:10-13).  “A faithful ambassador is health” (Proverbs 13:17).  “For he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts” (Malachi 2:7).  “A dispensation of the Gospel is committed unto me” (1 Corinthians 9:17).

The Lord, our gracious Counselor,
Is making messengers today.
He’s teaching each ambassador
To know what they should do and say.

This training starts within the heart,
Which by confession is made clean.
The Lord will search the inward part;
He sees what no one else has seen.

He teaches us to give control
To the dominion of His Spirit
And preach the Gospel to each soul
As He prepares their hearts to hear it.

Ambassadors of Christ bring health
Because of whom they represent,
For Jesus Christ imparts His wealth
Of grace to those who will repent.

The Gospel is a dispensation
Which never should be taken lightly:
Its preaching is a great vocation;
Its truth should be divided rightly.

O Lord, the power comes from You
To draw a sinner by Your grace
Who is convinced Your Word is true
And finds in You a Hiding Place.

We see the messengers You make,
O Lord, are sinners just like us!
We thank You that we may partake
In preaching truth so glorious.

We praise You, Lord, as now You fashion
Your messengers among Your sheep
To sow the Gospel with compassion
And show the promises You keep.
