Memories of Messiah

“We have thought of Thy lovingkindness, O God” (Psalm 48:9).  “The memory of the Just is blessed” (Proverbs 10:7).  “Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, and against the Man that is My Fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered” (Zechariah 13:7).  “Ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus… For ye are bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:11,19).

We’ve thought upon the love of God
Displayed when Christ our Savior died.
He saved us from His judgment rod
Which fell on Him when crucified.

We ponder now His memory
Which is as heaven’s sweet perfume,
His faithful love at Calvary,
His triumph at His vacant tomb!

As God extended to us favor,
The sword awoke at His command
Against His Son, our Lord and Savior,
To satisfy the Law’s demand.

Angelic swords were then restrained
Which heard no call from our Messiah,
But judgment’s sword which God ordained
Came forth, foretold by Zechariah.

Disciples then from Jesus fled,
And as foretold, He was betrayed,
Then as a Lamb to slaughter led,
He died for us, His sheep that strayed!

We’re justified now in His name!
We’re bought with heaven’s highest Price!
He took away our sin and shame;
Messiah was our Sacrifice!

Lord, thank You for this meditation
As You have drawn our hearts to You,
To ponder here Your great salvation
And praise You for Your love so true!
