Journey to Jerusalem

“Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:2).  “From everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was… My delights were with the sons of men... Whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD” (Proverbs 8:23-35).  “I am my Beloved's, and my Beloved is mine… Thou art beautiful, O My love… comely as Jerusalem” (Song of Solomon 6:3,4).  “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:17,18).

Come and see where we shall stand
As seen from God’s own point of view!
Come, He leads us by the hand
To see Jerusalem anew!

We journey first into the past
From everlasting, before time,
For even there the die was cast
Determined by God’s love sublime!

Yes, even then His great delight
Was set upon the sons of men.
Our souls were precious in His sight,
As He foresaw us even then.

Our journey takes us forward now
To see our Lord at Bethlehem
As with the wise men we may bow,
Then journey to Jerusalem.

We find ourselves outside her gates
Upon Golgotha’s darkened hill,
As here the world blindly hates
The LORD delighting in us still!

We come now to our present day;
Our time is brief to be explored:
Was there a time we knelt to pray
Receiving Jesus Christ as Lord?

For THIS is where the road divides!
Jerusalem is just ahead:
Who will be there?  Each heart decides
If they will be condemned instead.

We must press on to see the end:
We see our Savior with His own.
Our great Beloved and our Friend
As King of kings, is on His throne.

Jerusalem is beautiful:
We see the beauty of our King!
He is the Lover of our soul;
The sacrifice of praise we bring!

Our beauty is His righteousness:
Jerusalem shall hear the story!
As sinners we were in distress:
He clothed us in His grace and glory!

Jerusalem’s eternal peace
Now takes us to our final place,
Where joy in Christ shall never cease,
And we shall celebrate His grace.

O Lord, we thank You for Your Word
Inviting us to hear and see
What eyes and ears have never heard
Without Your Spirit’s liberty!

Lord, as we sing the joyful song
Of our Jerusalem above,
We pray for souls to come along
As we persuade them of Your love.
