Kids before Kings

“O give thanks to the Lord… who alone doeth great wonders… who remembered us in our low estate… and hath redeemed us” (Psalm 136: 3-24).  “Train up a child… Have not I written to thee excellent things… that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?... A man diligent in his business shall stand before kings” (Proverbs 22:6-29).  “Declare His doings among the people… He hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth” (Isaiah 12:4,5).  “When the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law” (Galatians 4:4,5).

Give thanks to the Savior!  How rightly we should,
For great are His wonders that He does alone!
Declare that His doings among us are good,
For He has redeemed us and called us His own.

The deeds of our God in this world are great,
Which prophets declared long before they were done.
Remembering us in our fallen estate,
When timing was perfect, He sent forth His Son.

Has not the Lord written these excellent things
That we might be thereby instructing our youth?
They ought to be ready to stand before kings,
Declaring precisely God’s counsel of truth.

The world may yawn in the face of our God,
Like soldiers who parted among them His clothes.
Our children, however, should have their feet shod,
Prepared with the Gospel, declaring He rose!

The year of our Lord in our date thus displays
That Christ came as promised, and He was not hid.
His excellent deeds and His marvelous ways
Should be on the minds and the lips of each kid!

Our kids should be ready to speak in the gates,
Equipped with the Scriptures that they have explored
To show the historical truth that relates
That these were completed by Jesus our Lord.

And science, GOOD science, that is, should be used,
That children may rightly see Cause and Effect,
To see why the world shall not be excused
For blindly ignoring the truth they detect.

O Lord, we are living in times that require
Revival in us and commitment renewed
To train up our kids with a valid desire
To stand before kings with a bold attitude.

We thank You, O Lord, for the things of creation
That show us Your attributes therein are plain.
Above even this, we behold Your salvation
Which we would impart to the kids that we train.
