"The children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.... And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, to go by day and night" (Exodus 13:18-21). "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5,6).
The children of Israel went of the land
Wherein they were captive for so many years,
Delivered at last by God's mighty hand
From all their oppression, affliction, and tears.
A cloud through the day and a fire by night
Were visible tokens by which the Lord led.
And now, as we're walking by faith, not by sight,
We follow our Savior, who rose from the dead.
Thus harnessed by heaven's direction and grace,
God leads His own children by night and by day.
At whatever time, situation, or place,
Their triumph is found as they trust and obey.
O Lord, we are harnessed by love that constrains,
And led now to trust You, as on You we lean.
Acknowledging daily Your hand that sustains,
Our faith is assured of the things not yet seen.
