Mistaken for a Moment

"The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment" (Proverbs 12:19).

Our time is but a moment's dash
Between eternities.
How quickly does a lifetime flash
As just a passing breeze.

But truth is not confined by time;
It crosses endless borders.
Its moral absolutes sublime
Are always as God orders.

How transient is the lying tongue,
Like dreams when we awaken!
Eternity regards them young;
A moment thus mistaken.

For souls in hell are not deceived:
They know their error now!
The souls in heaven that believed
In grateful worship bow!

How damaging are lying dreams
Though they are quickly gone,
Which "bait and switch" with subtle schemes
That vanish with the dawn!

Before our "moment" here has passed,
Lord, help us reach for Christ
The souls which may be free at last
From lies which have enticed.

O Lord, we thank You for Word
That makes the sinner free:
It is Your Gospel we have heard
Which saves eternally!
