God in Galilee

"That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying... by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people which sat in darkness saw a great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up. From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:14-17).

O Galilee, how sad your vision,
Enclosed in darkness where you sat,
With death's dark shadow as your prison,
Who could rescue you from that?

O Galilee, awake and see!
The Light has dawned upon your shore
That makes the darkness turn and flee
And opens every prison door!

O Galilee, your God has come:
Isaiah promised that He would!
The light of Christ is shining from
Your shoreline where our Savior stood!

O Galilee, you've heard His call,
Since heaven's kingdom is at hand:
Repent! He says, to one and all;
Let all the earth now understand!

O Galilee, make no mistake:
The Scriptures clearly prophesied
That Christ would suffer for our sake
And for our sins be crucified.

O Galilee, remember too
Our Savior said that He would rise,
And He would come again to you,
As lightning flashes in the skies.

O Christ, the Man of Galilee,
Our God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
We'll thank You for eternity
That for us You were sacrificed!
