"Give us help from trouble, for vain is the help of man" (Psalm 60:11). "Neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he..... Take hold of this... withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all" (Ecclesiastes 6:10, 7:18). "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.... for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:10-12).
How wrongly we wrestle with powers much greater
Than that which we have on our own,
Since God, our almighty, omniscient Creator
Would make His omnipotence known!
So let us be strong in the Lord and His might,
That we may be able to stand,
Confronting the rulers of darkness with light
And never withdrawing our hand.
O Lord, give us help in this battle arrayed
With power against us that roars,
For then, only then, shall we not be dismayed,
When help is not man's, but is Yours.
