Refusing the Refuge

"Because they regard not the works of the Lord, nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them, and not build them up" (Psalm 28:5). "In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and His children shall have a place of refuge" (Proverbs 14:26).

There is a refuge in God's grace
For all who fear the Lord.
We flee to safety in this place
From judgment's righteous sword.

For judgment here is satisfied
With all that Christ has done
When He for us was crucified
And our salvation won.

Yet many still do not regard
His saving operation,
Nor that our Savior's hands were scarred
And pierced for our salvation.

Because they turn away from God,
Refusing His redemption,
They choose instead His judgment rod,
Wherein there's no exemption.

We thank You, Lord, that in Your fear
We find our confidence:
In Christ we have our refuge here
And rest in His defense!
