Cords of Counsel

"The rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against His Anointed, saying, Let break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us" (Psalm 2:1-3). "Blind Bartimaeus... began to cry out, and say, Jesus, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal.... And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And.... he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way" (Mark 10:46-52).

There's counsel that we ought to heed
And counsel that should be ignored.
The Word of God is what we need
To follow Jesus Christ our Lord.

Opinions from the noisy crowd
May shout and tell us what to do,
But though their words are long and loud,
That doesn't make their counsel true.

With cords of love God draws us near;
The crowd will cast His cords away.
Ignore the crowd, and rather hear
And heed the Word of God today!

Now drawn to Christ, we leave behind
The counsel of this world's opinion.
We're led no longer by the blind,
But by the cords of Christ's dominion!
