Vitality in the Valley

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me" (Psalm 23:4). "The righteous hath hope in his death" (Proverbs 14:32).

We know that soon life's winding path
Leads to the valley of death.
Yet He who rescued us from wrath
Attends us with each breath.

Each step we take, each breath we finish,
Draws from our finite supply,
Which soon, at last, shall be diminished;
Then we're appointed to die.

What sweet assurance! The presence of God
Is with us each step of the way!
The comfort of staff, correction of rod,
Has guarded us lest we should stray.

This is the hope of those who are blest,
Whom God declares righteous by grace!
Death merely ushers us home to our rest,
Where God has reserved us a place!
